Where to Begin...
I've been meaning to write something about the commitment it takes to this, or any craft for that matter, in order to succeed; and how easy it is to get distracted or lured away from what it is we as artists must do. Anyone who knows me will tell you I take a few "months" off from painting each year and much like going to the gym, it's sometimes difficult to get back on the proverbial horse. I thought I would share with how I start out a landscape. It's not much of a tutorial and to the right people it might be telling; To others perhaps just a pretty sepia piece... An instructor friend of mine loves to mention how "telling" things are when he happens upon a painting that has visible drawing lines or other indications as to how the artist began or laid out a particular work. Truth is we always get to see the finish piece and not to often get to see how it began... So enjoy.
